Most business moves here happen on a Saturday. Here is what one actually looks like, in the three parts that matter.
The floor plan is finished and printed, and every desk, cabinet and crate already has a destination position on it. Crates went out to your team in advance so people packed their own desks. Both buildings have agreed the access — the lift, the bay, the out-of-hours admission, the security contact. None of this happens on the day; all of it is why the day works.
Trolleys and coded batches, in an order built backwards from what has to be usable first. IT is handled separately and last, lifted in coordination with whoever maintains it. Protection goes down on floors and lift interiors at both ends before anything moves. The old site is emptied in a sequence, not in a rush.
The new space is set out to the plan rather than stacked in a corridor for somebody to sort out. Desks are rebuilt at their positions, storage is where the plan said, and the crates stay with you until you have unpacked. Anything that did not fit goes into storage listed rather than shoved in a van.
That is how most business moves around here run — evenings and weekends. It is usually the only time the building and the street are available to you in any case.
That is what the planning is for. The floor plan and the labelling are finished before the move starts, and the new premises are set out to that plan. What you lose is an evening or a weekend.
We move it; we do not decommission or recommission it. Servers and racks are lifted in coordination with whoever maintains them, who powers down and brings back up.

The stock is the difference. A retail move is mostly shelving and stock rather than desks and IT, and the sequence matters more.
