The turn at the top of the stairs
In a converted house the staircase was built for one household and then divided. The landing turn is almost always the narrowest point of the whole route, and it is what decides whether a three-seater leaves in one piece. We measure it at the visit, which is the only time the answer is useful.
A lift sized for people
Purpose-built blocks around the town centre frequently have a lift that takes a mattress standing up and very little else. Internal depth, width and height all matter, and so does whether the doors stay open. Knowing the numbers turns a crisis into a load-order decision.
The street door
Consistently underestimated, because everyone measures the flat door instead. On a converted terrace the shared street entrance is often the tightest opening on the route, and it is the one nobody thinks about until something is wedged in it.
A booking you did not know about
Riverside and canal-side blocks towards Brentford run reserved loading bays and booked service lifts, and several want to see our insurance before admitting a crew. Discovering that on the morning is the worst possible time; we ask the managing agent in advance instead.

None of these is a disaster. All of them are much cheaper as a plan than as an improvisation.

Second floor, no lift. Is that a problem?

Will the sofa come down the stairs?

Normal in the riverside developments. We speak to the concierge or agent, book the lift and the bay for a window, fit whatever protection the building asks for, and plan the load order around that window.
Do you need the building's insurance requirements in advance?
Send them as early as you can. Several blocks will not admit a removals crew without seeing cover details first.
I only need one room moved out of a shared flat.
That is usually better as a man-and-van job — the same wrapping standard, a smaller vehicle, priced by the job.
